Day 4- June 6th

Germany Update

Day 4

We went to the school of our friends' daughter, Velony. She is in the 3rd grade. She goes to a private, Evangelical school in Chemnitz. We also went to some 2nd grade classes and 4th grade classes. We also went with Chris and Krista Cannon who are the current HIM (Helpers in Missions) workers in Chemnitz. (That is the program that Clint and I did that is organized by Oklahoma Christian University.) Also with us, was the EFG team from OSU. We were basically given the run of each class which were all 45 minutes long. We introduced ourselves and played games which involved asking them questions so they could practice their English. We asked simple questions and had them answer in full English sentences. We asked them their names, how old they were, what their hobbies were, what their favorite color was, etc. These types of questions were perfect for them to practice their vocabulary. We also sang some songs. The two popular songs that we did were "If you're happy and you know it" and "Head, shoulders, knees and toes". We also played some games of "Simon Says". Everyone seemed to enjoy the games and getting to practice their English.

If you can imagine it, when we first got to the first classroom, Heidi was nervous and didn't want to go in. The kids were excited to have us there, and I guess she wasn't sure what we were doing or what to expect. Once we went in and started talking to them and doing the games, she got really excited about it and the kids wanted to hear her talk too. After one of the classes, there was a recess break and Velony wanted us to go outside to recess with her. Went went out to a courtyard and almost immediately, Heidi was surrounded by kids wanting to talk to her and saying how cute she was. :) I tried to take some pictures of this. It was so cute to see how much the kids loved her and wanted to play with her and talk to her. And she was eating it up, of course. :)

You can hardly see her head in the middle of all these kids
