Day 15

Monday, June 17th

This day and Tuesday were our last two days in Chemnitz. After the very busy schedule we had for the past 2 weeks, we wanted to take these days to do some things that we weren't able to do the whole time we were there.

Monday, we wanted to go back to our old neighborhood to take a walk around and remember the nice walks and times we had there. First, we stopped by our old apartment building to see if any of our neighbors were home. We were able to visit one neighbor, Tina and she was very excited to see us and happy that we stopped by. It was nice to catch up with her. Our other neighbor works at the grocery store across the street, so we went by and said hello to Peggy too. She was also very happy that we came by. We walked by the Sullivan's old house too and saw that there was a lot of furniture sitting outside which had been damaged by the recent flood. It was very sad to see that things were a bit of a mess there again. (This is the 3rd time in 11 years that the house was flooded) :(

This is our old apartment building with a new coat of paint and they added balconies onto the back! Too bad we didn't have a balcony when we lived there! :)

Attached to our building, was Ed and Courtney's old apartment (a.k.a. Mark and Karen, Roy and Tiffany.... etc.) :)

It still looked the same
We wanted to walk on our normal walking path, but it was closed off due to construction, so we went down another street and then did a loop around to hit our favorite döner shop. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was closed. :( So we went a little bit down the street to an Asian Imbiss where they sell döners. Then we decided to take another walking path nearby and walk down to the ice cream shop. :) On the way, there was a playground so we stopped to let Heidi play for a few minutes.

After we got back, we let Corbin take a nap and Heidi got to play with the other kids.

That evening, Kerstin and Olaf had planned to spend time with us and we ate dinner together. It was nice to spend that evening with them. We didn't get to see Olaf much while we were there because of his work schedule, but that evening was nice.

And here's a fun little picture to describe how Corbin feels about the heat wave we are having
It has been pretty warm here. Actually, it's not hotter than in Oklahoma right now, but the thing that makes the biggest difference is the fact that there's no air conditioning in most buildings here. There are some grocery stores and few places that do have it, but most don't. Actually, after writing that, I checked the weather and it says it's 88, but feels like 94. That is pretty warm. It is supposed to cool down tomorrow though so we are hoping for some relief soon! We have joked about getting some camping chairs and taking it to the grocery store to hang out... we might get some weird looks. :)
